Sofia Coppola

I love Sofia Coppola. Daughter of veteran film maker Francis Ford Coppola, her work so far includes The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette- 3 visually stunning films, each set in a different time and place, but linked through their portrayal of complicated women.
So, I was excited to hear she is currently shooting a new feature. When I heard it was entitled The Bling Ring, I was even more excited!
In real life, the bling ring were a strange group of teenagers who, in 2009, together located (via google maps) and burglarized the homes of celebrities including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom and Rachel Bilson. Together, they stole over 3 million worth of clothes and jewelry before eventually being caught. The film centers around the ringleader of the group, Rachel Lee, and stars Emma Watson and Kirsten Dunst.
I’m sure Coppola will have us enraptured.

New-York based fashion label rag&bone’s newest jean campaign is an interesting one. Taking advantage of the rising fame and interest in contemporary supermodels, (think Abby Lee Kershaw, Miranda Kerr and Lily Aldridge) they have launched the first “do it yourself” advertising campaign.
The pitch is as follows, “Welcome to the D.I.Y. project, where our favourite girls get into our jeans. No stylist, no hair and make-up, no lighting. Just a girl and her camera. And rag & bone.”
Handpicked by rag & bone, the beauties that feature in the project include Australia’s own Abby Lee and Miranda Kerr, Sasha Pivovarova, Karolina Kurkova, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge and Carolyn Murphy. Each barefaced model has styled themselves for their photoshoot, and each snapshot offers a (slighty vouyeristic) insight into their lives.

Parisian fashion label Kenzo has teamed up with all-American skate-wear brand Vans, to create a set of summer inspired sneakers. Love the prints, love the colours… Too bad we are about to embark on a 3 month stint of freezing winter weather! Might just buy them anyway…
California dreamin’…

California’s notorious week long music festival, Coachella, kicked off last week, with an amazing line-up including Radiohead, Bon Iver, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Florence and the Machine and Beirut, amongst many, many others. The annual festival takes place in the city of Indio, in the middle of the Californian desert. Have a look at some of the snapshots from this year… So good!

Stumbled upon this video recently, and fell in love with it. A group of friends in L.A. decided to film themselves for a couple of weeks- hanging out, skating around the city, playing music and climbing trees.
